There was a fascinating article in the Boston Globe this past Sunday about innovation in food packaging that gets us away from petroleum-based plastic.

Research is going on at the Wyss Institute to create a new polymer made by bacteria, polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). It it truly compostable in your backyard compost piles unlike the "compostable" plastic bags now appearing in stores in our area like Wegmans.
